Maybe it’s because I like M. Night’s work and will defend it regardless of the truth… no, that’s not right because I didn’t like Unbreakable and have no problems with saying that…
I am not a fan of gratuitous violence and gore, so I was not a big fan of some parts of this movie… The acting was not great in some parts of the movie, but John Leguizamo does a great job and I think Mark Wahlberg portrayed his character pretty appropriately…
The overall story? I loved it. The not graphic and simply implied death scenes? Creepy and really well done… Just the bleak, hopeless and helpless feeling that one gets when watching some scenes is amazing… When I can walk out of a theater talking about the movie and trying to figure out how I would handle it and comparing impressions and conclusions with other people, I think that’s a good sign.
I liked The Happening and if you think that equates to me having bad taste in movies, I am OK with that… I can refute most of what people point out as bad things about the movie, but meh… I have my opinions and they have theirs…
So, because Doug is currently playing GTA4 and kicking ass at it, that leaves me without a video game distraction while he plays on the PS3… so, I buckled to the constant pressure from my friend Tyler and got World of Warcraft… Mind you, I would not have caved in if it wasn’t for the fact that the WoW Battle Chest was on sale for cheap and I had a coupon…
So, now I have a WoW account and I am happily adventuring my little brains out as a Tauren Druid (Imagine a pretty and feminine minotaur in a buckskin dress) named…
Carageenan
Hee hee I liked that name and it was surprisingly available… I figured people could call me Cara if I ever got into adventuring with other people… Besides, I just like the way that the name sounds
Sorry to the Heroes and Villains out there… I find fantasy adventuring much more appealing than superheroing… Unless I could be like Macaroni and Cheese Girl - using the power of neon orange cheese to thwart evil-doers everywhere!!!
Or not
Besides, Tyler had me make a character at his house and play for a while and it was fun… He’s like a drug pusher — my first hit was free
So Doug and I watched Hot Fuzz last night and now my favorite thing to do is:
We are such dorks I signed off on an email to Doug this morning with “Jog on!” and he answered the phone by saying, “Yarp”
I must go buy this movie!
Oh! And I now like Nick Frost (The guy who played Ed in Shaun of the Dead and played PC Butterman in Hot Fuzz) thanks to this movie… He was much less annoying this time around
Oh yeah! And lest I forget, we have also taken to calling each other “barstool” and “bar steward” because of the word substitutions that they made when they tried to make the language fit for TV… Hee hee!
I was reminiscing today about days past… I googled the only person from the #KNRK days whose last name I know and lo and behold I found him on MySpace… I didn’t bother to write because I was just googling on a whim… I didn’t try any of the other people whose nicks I remember, because I am sure there are a ton of Peaches and Monkeyfoos and Brandons and Glytters running around now… You know I don’t even remember if Brandon had a nick… I always just called him Brandon, regardless of what his chat handle was
Best memory was Brandon pretending he was Sammy Davis Jr. and him making smilies with one eye… LOL
.)
I miss the old days
In other news, I hate when people who have Japanese names and are Japanese misprounouce their names… Haruko is NOT pronounced “Huh-roo-koh” — I realize you are from Canada, but c’mon…
That title describes me in 3 words… I should be working, but I am surfing the net and eating raisins… I will be working very shortly, but I am having a hard time getting motivated…
OKCupid is fun… Arguing with people on OKCupid’s forums is also fun… too bad none of that fun translates into meeting someone super awesome on the site
The Casino did not love me yesterday… I went to play Bingo in the new Bingo venue at Spirit Mountain and it was so fun!! I wanted to draw all over everything with the free daubers they were giving out So, we didn’t win anything at Bingo, which was a bummer, but we also didn’t win on the machines which sucked… oh well! That visit will have to satisfy my gambling urge until I go to Vegas in July…
In other news, I found a new webcomic to read… it’s a manga that Dark Horse is publishing and they are being released on the web, too… it’s called Red String and it’s the typical Japanese High School romance comic, but I like the artwork and I like the story and characters…
Yes, the weather is miserably hot, but I am actually talking about a scene in a movie I am watching…
The History Boys — a British film about a group of boys trying to get into Oxford college… An entertaining film with some funny-in-a-dry-way stuff and some really fascinating debates and quotations… And quite possibly the sexiest scene ever…
Yowza!
About 90 minutes into the film - an exchange between Dakin and Irwin after the boys have been to Oxford for their interviews… Not vulgar and no nudity or sex… just plainly spoken honesty… and it is super hot…
